The Client
Arranmore Ferry, the original ferry is operated by Dominic Sweeney, his wife Deirdre and their excellent team. The service goes from Burtonport in County Donegal to Arranmore Island.

The Problem
The quality service provided is and always was excellent, but the website was not. There was no way to buy tickets online, especially using a mobile phone. And most visitors to the island do use a mobile phone nowadays.

The Brief
The request was for a website that would be mobile friendly, responsive, easy to navigate on a small screen. The new Timetable function needed to be easy to view and the next sailing should stand out in real time. And the new website should allow people book and pay for tickets online, especially on a smart phone. Ideally using an app like shortcut.

The Approach
After our initial meeting with Deirdre and Rosemary, we started as usual with a written Brief of our own interpretation of the project, for approval by Dominic and Deirdre. Then we created a wireframe or layout for approval by the team. Then we created a custom design for approval, which needed very little in revisions. The photos and the stunning video from Arranmore Ferry are a great graphic depiction of what they do. Then we built a business website that focused on the sailings, whilst backing them up with any of the supporting information that might be required to answer any questions about the service or the island 24/7/365.

Using this great photography and video plus some custom nautical graphic elements and pages, we populated the website with content from the client and we created some new text to beef it up. We optimised for the agreed and very competitive key terms. Then we trained Marketing Manager Rosemary on managing the site and the Booking Engine for ticketing.

The Results for Arranmore Ferry
The site has been a huge success, with footfall up and loads of compliments on the new website. CEO Deirdre Sweeney said “The support from the team at MEANit. was excellent. Even after hours or at weekends, we got instant response to any query”. Online ticket sales work smoothly on a small screen and the website is ranking very well organically.
